Kalyn Belsha

Kalyn Belsha is a freelance journalist based in Chicago. Fluent in Spanish, her primary areas of interest are language education, immigration policy, changing demographics and Latino community news.

With the help of a 2011 local reporting award from the Chicago Community Trust, Kalyn recently published a three-part series about dual language education in Hoy, the Chicago Tribune’s Spanish-language daily. She teaches an undergraduate journalism course in writing for the web at Loyola University Chicago and profiled several Chicago public schools for the Chicago News Cooperative.

Her work has appeared in The Texas Observer, The Houston Chronicle, Time Out Chicago, RedEye Chicago and The Beaumont Enterprise, and she has contributed reporting to the Chicago section of the New York Times. Kalyn holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
